Choose How Mercala Tells You
You now decide, for each kind of notification, whether it arrives by email, as a card in Notifications, both, or not at all. Where to find it, what each choice means, and what we still always send.
What changed
Until now every notification came the way we picked: some by email, some as a card in Notifications, some both. From today you choose. Open the account menu, pick Preferences, and scroll to Notifications. Every kind of message Mercala sends you is listed there, grouped by what it is about, with one choice beside each.

Emails about your account’s security always go out.
If you never open the section, you get most notifications both ways: an email, and a card in Notifications (the N tab beside F on the dashboard). That includes your saved-search and saved-listing alerts, which until now came by email only. Reminders about unfinished drafts stay email only unless you change them.
The four choices
- Both: an email and a card in Notifications. The default for most.
- Email: the email only. Nothing appears in Notifications.
- In app: the card only. Handy for news you like to see but not in your inbox.
- Off: nothing at all for that kind of message.
Your choice is saved the moment you pick it, and it applies to the next message we send. It is the same on your phone and your computer.
What you can choose
- Saved searches. New listings that match a search you saved, gathered once a day. Here you choose how they reach you. Whether a search sends alerts at all is still its own switch, "Email me when new items match this filter", where you edit that saved search; with it off, that search sends nothing.
- Saved listings. Price changes, and status changes: a listing you saved goes pending, closes, or comes back on the market.
- Your listings. Decisions on your proof (verified, other proof needed, not accepted); a listing’s time online running out or ending with a membership; and reminders about a draft you started.
- Mercala. Product updates, like this one.
- Account. Payment problems. A failed renewal is always emailed, so here you only choose whether it also shows in Notifications.
Three more appear in the list marked as coming soon: Appraisal requests, Buyer enquiries and New messages. You can set them now; nothing is sent for them until those features arrive. Buyer enquiries still reach your email directly in the meantime.
The one email we always send
One email is not optional: the one about a failed payment, because missing it could cost you your access. Everything else is yours to turn down.
If a choice does not behave the way you expect, reply to any of our emails or write to support@mercala.org.
